Lamborghini's 700HP 6.5-liter V12 for Murcielago

Lamborghini has announced details of an all-new 6.5-liter V12 engine for the next Murcielago,  The all-new engine is made of aluminum-silicon alloy and is lighter, with considerably reduced piston speeds even at a 11.8:1 compression ratio.

The new engine was developed by Lamborghini at its Sant’Agata Bolognese facility. The cylinder bank is
60 degrees so the whole engine is very compact -- measuring 665 millimeters tall, 848 mm wide and 784 mm in length. The total power is 700PS (515kW) at 8250RPM and 690Nm of torque available at 5500RPM.

The bore diameter is 95 mm and the cylinder stroke is 76.5 mm. The overall mass of the monster is just 234kg, 24.6 of which is the nitride-hardened crankshaft.

Lamborghini also announced a new ISR (Independent Shifting Rods) 7-speed transmission. the ISR is a single clutch unit and will deliver shift times up to half the speed of a dual-clutch setup. Lamborghini also claims that at 154 lbs., the transmission is far lighter than a dual-clutch version and is also more compact. The transmission is able to shift so quickly (40 percent quicker than the E-gear setup in the Gallardo) because rather than having several gears and one shift rod to engage them, there’s a shift rod for each gear, allowing one gear to be engaging as the other one is letting off. The transmission will come with three modes: Strada (automatic), Sport and Corsa.
